Summary

The Fault In Our Stars is one of John Greens well written, most popular books. The Fault In Our Stars features a girl with cancer. She is in a state of depression ( as her mother claims ) and tends to re-read the same book: An Imperial Affliction. This book features a truthful truth about cancer and what it's like. Hazel claims that Anna ( girl in the book ) is the only person who A) Knows what it's like to be dying and B) Hasn't actually died. Her mother highly encourages her to attend a youth group that includes kids with a variety of different medical conditions. In this youth group, Hazel Grace comes in contact with the very handsome and respectful, Augustus Waters. The re-reading of this book causes her in a state of wonder as to what happens to the girl featured in it. To cope with the suspense, Hazel and Augustus try to communicate with the author, Peter Van Houten. This leads her to get an invitation to his house in Amsterdam. Hazels doctor convince Hazel not to go, telling her that she can't because she is too sick. Augustus uses his cancer wish for them both to travel and find out what happens after the book. The author comes off to be extremely rude and the trip became a wasted one. Afterwards, the trip was made up by visiting the Anne Frank house. Hazel-Grace Lancaster and Augustus Waters face obstacles that no, cancer free person would ever understand. But, together, they both find a way in to accepting each others illnesses and loving each other unconditionally. As Hazel grace quotes in the novel, there is a number of infinities. There is an infinite number of numbers between 0 and 1. But, there is an even bigger infinity between 0 and 2. This goes to show that some infinites are bigger than other infinites. Hazel- Grace thanks Augustus for their little infinity.

Conflict
NAME

Internal

One example of Internal conflict in this novel is Hazel vs Depression/Feelings. Hazel mentions in the book that she, particularly, is a grenade. That her cancer isn't only affecting herself but also affecting the people around her. She feels as if she could '' blow up '' any minute. Hazel is really bothered by this idea. Hazel motivates herself in to not falling in love or getting close to Augustus, but he makes it relatively hard. She learns to come to terms with her feelings and accept that this is the way it is. In the end, Augustus turns out to be the grenade.

NAME

External

One example of External conflirt in this novel is Hazel Grace vs Her Social Skills. Because of a three year removement from socializing, she has been withdrawn. She does not know how to handle herself in public situations. She feels as if her and Augustus relationship is miraculous because she connects with him on a deeper level she never thought she was capable of doing, immediatly.

NAME

Interpersonal

One example of Interpersonal conflict in this novel is Hazel Grace vs Peter Van Houten. When she arrives at his house in Amsterdam, he is very rude. He makes cancer statements. He refers to her as a failed experiment. Hazel-Grace and Houten get in a very heated arguement and she leaves without any answers to her questions about Anna ( girl in An Imperial Affliction ).
